Ministry of Industry and Commerce expands CBCA programme

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has engaged two additional service providers for its Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programme, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and capacity of import quality verification.

The expansion, which came into effect on August 1, 2025, brings the total number of accredited providers to six.

The CBCA programme is a critical pre-shipment verification system designed to shield Zimbabwean consumers from the influx of substandard, counterfeit, and hazardous goods. It mandates that certain imported products undergo inspection and certification in their country of origin before shipment.

The two new service providers, the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) and the World Standardisation Certification and Testing Group Company Limited, will join four existing firms, creating a more robust framework for compliance. The other four are Bureau Veritas Company Limited, Cotecna Inspection SA, EAA Company Limited and Intertek International Limited.

In a statement, the ministry underscored that these additional engagements are set to “improve convenience and capacity on service delivery” for importers and clearing agents. The expansion reaffirms the Second Republic’s steadfast commitment to ensuring that the quality and condition of all imported goods align with global standards, thereby safeguarding public health and the local economy.
